Not just giving drugs and explaining how to use the drugs you need, there are many other things you need to know about the actual work of a pharmacist. Pharmacists do not prescribe drugs, but play an important role in maintaining drug quality and ensuring proper drug storage. Pharmacists are part of a team of professional health services working in a pharmacy, whether in the hospital pharmacy or the pharmaceutical industry. Focusing on the effectiveness and safety of drug use, a pharmacist has the duty to distribute medicines. In addition, a pharmacist is also in charge of selecting drugs that can still be used and expired drugs. Pharmacists can also help suggest whether you need to see a doctor, find a variety of drug options, and tell about the side effects of each drug. To become a pharmacist, one must undergo university-level pharmacy education and learn a number of things, such as how to use drugs, drug side effects, drug interactions with other compounds or drugs, monitor drug use and reaction limits, and study chemical mechanisms and work medicine in the body. What is learned will be combined with other scholarship, such as the anatomy and physiology of the human body. To do this work, a pharmacist must have been previously registered with a regulatory body, the Indonesian Pharmacists Association. With its supplies, pharmacists have an important role in a hospital or pharmaceutical industry, as well as providing quality health services. Unfortunately, sometimes some pharmacists act against the rules by giving hard drugs requested by patients without going through a doctor's prescription. This is a malpractice and very risky, because it can endanger the patient. Decree of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Number 02396 / A / SK / VIII / 1986 Article 2 states that hard drugs can only be prescribed by a doctor. In addition, Article 3 of hard drugs must have a special sign in the form of the letter K with a red circle on all packages of hard drugs. You need a prescription or consult with your doctor before taking it. So, even though pharmacists have a lot of supplies about drugs and diseases, it doesn't mean that pharmacists can easily administer hard drugs to patients without a doctor's prescription.

Consider Some of These Things When Buying Medicines

The following are some things that you need to consider when you want to buy drugs at a pharmacist:
  • Make sure the pharmacist at the place you buy the drug has the same information or understanding as the doctor about the drug given and also the reactions that might appear to you after taking the drug.
  • It is recommended to ask for the measuring device if the medicine you are taking is liquid medicine. Because, tablespoons in your home with measuring spoons can have different sizes.
  • In order to keep drugs out of reach of children, especially for bottle packaging, make sure the medicine you buy is accompanied by a safety device for children, or with an opening that is quite difficult for children to open.
  • So that the drug can be stored safely and not damaged, ask the pharmacist for advice on how to store the drug, because some drugs can be damaged in the womb if you store it in the wrong place. For example, whether it should be stored in the refrigerator or in a dry place.
In addition to some of the above, the pharmacist will also make sure that the medication and instructions for using the drug are in accordance with the prescription provided by your doctor or in accordance with the information that your doctor has provided during the consultation. The pharmacist is one of the health care professionals who is responsible for choosing and providing medicine for you. Although pharmacists have knowledge about certain drugs and diseases, it is not recommended that you buy hard drugs without a doctor's prescription. For the determination of drugs to be prescribed according to the diagnosis of the disease, you still need to consult a doctor first. In addition, consider also whether the pharmacist who is on duty at the place you buy drugs, already has a permit or not, and has been registered with the Indonesian Pharmacists Association or not.
